So it’s finally been officially revealed! A massive collection of over 600 social applications for normal web and mobile facebook too. It seems to be that you must be within the United States to access the App Centre, for the minute anyway, with Facebook most likely rolling it out in the home country first.
The App Centre will be the collection of apps, showing lists of popular ones, Facebook recommended ones and finally all of the apps used by you’re Facebook friends. From here you will be able to install the app directly into Facebook, or you will have the option to send it to your phone, to be installed there.
So it’s just the Apple App Store + Facebook… I don’t really get it. Apparently Facebook was responsible for 83 million visits to the Apple App Store in May, so they are just removing one step in the process, for the benefit of who though?
Facebook are trying to improve their mobile business, but this is a free service? Facebook is currently under insane pressure to come up with a way to make money, especially since it’s stock is in freefall at the moment, and they are probably looking at the mobile end of their business to really come up with the goods for their investors. As I have pointed out before here, their stock is not doing too well.
I’ll be keeping an eye on this!
